Schlüsselblume-2
Very similar to Herbstzeitlose, although smaller. Size: rectangular, 40 x 34 cm. Materials: 35g fine crochet rayon, size 4/0 knitting needles. (See this chart for vintage German needle sizes.)
Instructions: Cast on 28 stitches and knit according to chart A, knitting flat, purling the return rows. Slip the first stitch of every row and knit the last stitch through the back loop, including on the WS (return) purl rows. Where there are double yarnovers, on the next round knit the first loop and purl the second loop. After row 46, knit 4 rows stockinette.
Preparation for knitting in the round: Keep the 28 live stitches on the needle. Along the next side pick up stitches as follows: [(P1, yo) x 3, (k1, p1) in the next stitch]. Repeat the stitches inside the brackets 6 times, then P1 into the last stitch on that side. Pick up 1 stitch in each cast-on stitch. Along the next side pick up stitches as follows: [(P1, yo) x 3, (k1, p1) in the next stitch]. Repeat the stitches inside the brackets 6 times, then P1 into the last stitch on that side. Total: 168 stitches (28 + 56 + 28 + 56). Begin knitting according to chart B. Work the stitches of the right chart, then the center chart, then the left chart. Work the stitches of the center chart B once on the short sides and twice on the long sides. The stitches of Chart B-Left form the corners. Cast off loosely after round 62. Block evenly.
