Knitting Charts

First of all, thank you to the many people who have sent me Niebling patterns I didn't already have. I'm amazed at how many people are supportive of my idea to rechart and save as many Niebling patterns as possible. And also, I owe a lot of thanks to the wonderful people in the Herbert Niebling group on Ravelry who are always willing to answer questions and help me interpret the instructions for these patterns. The doily underground - what a lot of generous people they are.

I like to rechart old Herbert Niebling patterns for fun. It's every bit as much fun as solitaire or crossword puzzles or monopoly online. I use the "Stitch Mastery" program, which is its own kind of puzzle, although not difficult to learn to use. I put the charts I've worked on here, some of them at least, and if you want to try knitting them, you are welcome to download the charts and use them. No guarantees, although I think they are pretty accurate. If you find an error, please let me know so I can correct the chart. I have made the charts as accurate as I can, and the numbers, at least, all add up. Links to the various categories of patterns, and other resources, are listed to the right.

I haven't monetized Niebling's patterns by charging for them, but I do have costs for maintaining this website. If you appreciate the website, please support it by purchasing a pattern from my designs on Ravelry. If you want to share these charts with others, do me a favor, please, and share the link to this page rather than distributing my charts yourself.

You can see photos of these patterns in the Ravelry database. I don't own the original photos, so I don't want to use them here.

Downloading or copying any of my charts constitutes agreement to abide by my terms:

  • Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
  • I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
  • Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!

My hope is that someday there will be a centralized collection of all the extant HN patterns, maybe at the university he attended in Germany, or maybe the original publishers of his patterns will create an archive. Meanwhile, Ravelry.com has the most complete list of Niebling patterns that I know of (although not the patterns themselves.) I think my website has the most patterns in one place, but they are all recharts, not originals. I'd like to make my website a good database for Niebling patterns, too, but the internet is transitory, isn't it? Websites don't last forever
