Where to find Herbert Niebling Patterns

I frequently see questions on Ravelry about where to find Herbert Niebling patterns. He designed many patterns, maybe more than 1000 in his lifetime. But it seems difficult to find them, when you start looking. However, that's not really the case. I have over 400 of his patterns myself, which I've bought or found online. Many of his patterns have been reprinted in folios available from booksellers like Amazon, Book Depository or Booklooker. The folios include reprints of the original magazines and large folded reprints of the patterns. At around $20.00 to 30.00 each (US dollars), sometimes with free shipping, you can build up quite a collection. Also, you can sometimes find old German, French, Italian or Dutch knitting magazines on seller platforms like eBay. I have saved a couple of searches for vintage Burda and Beyer knitting magazines on ebay, for instance, so I get notified if something turns up. There is also a website that sells scans of quite a few magazines with HN patterns.

There are also more controversial sources, for instance those who rechart Niebling patterns and offer them for sale. I've bought a few patterns from those sellers, when I couldn't find a particular pattern anywhere else. Or, those Russian websites that are sort of like Pinterest, that you can find online. There's a whole doily underground out there, to borrow a phrase from a Niebling authority on Ravelry. Go out and search!
