This is a somewhat early Niebling tablecloth, very pretty but it doesn’t have as much graceful movement in the pattern as later patterns have. Still, I like it a lot. Many thanks are due to Dr. Nicole Jarvis, who is a mathematician and enjoys puzzles. She identified an error in the original chart in round 213 and figured out how to fix it and make it look balanced. I spent a lot of time trying to figure it out, and couldn’t. Dr. Jarvis to the rescue! This isn’t the first time she has come to the rescue. She and another knitter are test knitting Viktoria-Aster and they have found errors in my chart, and places where a small change creates more balance in the entire design.

Size: 65cm diameter. Materials: size 200 crochet thread and size 0/0 knitting needles. This is very fine thread and I think it is difficult to find. Of course, the size of the tablecloth will be different if you use heavier thread and larger needles.

Cast on 8 stitches and repeat the pattern 8 times per round. Knit the rounds not shown on the charts, and where there are double YOs, in the next round knit the first loop and purl the second loop. Note that in round 164 you need to increase the five YOs to 13 stitches. In round 216, increase the six YOs to 21 stitches, and in round 232 increase the four YOs to 11 stitches.

Repeat the pattern 16 times per round from round 217. After round 244, use a crochet hook to bind off. Decrease with a single crochet at shown in the last round, and chain 12 between the decreases. Then crochet a second round, with a double crochet into each loop and chain 14 between the double crochet stitches.
