Herbstzeitlose
This is an insert that matches the Schleife lace edging pattern. Herbstzeitlose can also be used to make a lace edging, or a longer insert, as well as the corner inserts shown in the photo on Ravelry.
Materials: Crochet size 80 thread and size 1/0 needles as well as a square of 110 x 110 cm fine linen or voile. The finished tablecloth is 100 x 100 cm; but it can also be made rectangular by making the angles longer on one side. Repeat rows 1 to 54 of Chart B as many times as desired to make a longer insert.
Cast on 8 stitches and join into a round. Knit Chart A four times per rond. After round 44, bind off the first and second repeats, leaving the live stitches of the third and fourth repeats on the needles. Knit Chart B rows 1 to 54 flat, two or more times, depending on the desired size, on each repeat so that you create a corner insert with two arms. Knit 4 inserts; starch and block them. Place them in the corners of the linen fabric square, an inch or two in from the fabric edge. Stitch them in place with invisible stitches. Carefully cut away the fabric under the knitted fabric, roll the raw edge and stitch in place with tiny stitches. Hem the square of fabric. The angles can also be used as a set for a cushion. Rounds 1-54 of Fig. B knitted continuously with crochet thread size 20 or 30 makes a nice insert for linen.
