Schleife
Schleife is a pretty lace edging by Herbert Niebling, which I only recently came across. I added it to the Ravelry database and also recharted it to make it easier for me to knit. You can see a good photo of the lace on Ravelry's database.
Lace with scalloped edge: Each repeat has 58 rows. Begin by casting on 42 stitches and start at row one on the chart. Purl the even-numbered rows. Depending on how you plan to use the lace, I would either start with a provisional cast-on, or knit a few rows of garter stitch before beginning the chart. When the lace is as long as you want it, either graft the ends together (for a pillow case edging, maybe) or knit a few more rows of garter stitch and bind off.
NOTE the gathered stitch on row 27. Slip three stitches onto a cable needle and hold to the front of your work. Wrap your yarn or thread tightly around the three stitches a dozen times. Then knit the three stitches. You could also, I suppose, pull the three stitches through a bead with a large enough hole in the center. The primary thing is to make some sort of bump, and to start and wind up with three stitches in that spot.
2028 1184There is also a lace insert with the same motif and straight, rather than scalloped, edges. It can be used as an insert or edging.
Remember:
- Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. If you want to share them with others, send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
- I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please, don't redistribute this chart. Instead, use a link to this site so people can find the chart themselves.
