Flammenblume
Thanks again to Annagret for her work on the instructions which she has rewritten and updated. Material, size: 400g medium crochet yarn, the original used artificial silk (viscose). Using 2 (2.5)mm needles, a size of 100 x 140 (110 x 150) cm was obtained.
Instructions: Cast on 4 sts, join in the round and work according to chart A, working the chart 2 times per round. Mind only half the pattern is charted, i.e. work the first half from right to left, then mirror the pattern working from left to right. Working from left to right, the direction of the decreases has to be inverted, i.e. k2tog has to be changed to ssk and vice versa. Rd 1 is worked as follows: k1, yo twice, k2, yo twice, k1. All rows which are not charted must be knit, but double yarnovers have to be worked k1, p1.
After 158 rounds, you will have 2 repeats of 346 sts each. Place the first and the last 84 sts of both repeats on hold [these will come to lie on the long sides of the rectangle] and work in rows across the 178 sts in between according to chart B [one side after the other]. As before, chart B depicts only half the pattern, i.e. start working from right to left, then mirror and work from left to right. Rows not charted must be purled.
After 72 rows on each side, pick up 36 st per side of the chart B parts [1 st per 2 rows, slip-stitch edge recommended]. This results in 240 sts each for the long sides [36+84+84+36] and 140 sts each on the short sides. Start the border working 4 rounds purl.
After that, work according to chart C, starting in one of the corners (arrow in the chart). For rounds 1-87, you will work the part of the chart to the right of the bold line once (corner). Regardless of that and only for rounds 1-21, work the chart to the left of the bold line 12 times for the long sides and 7 times for the short sides. For rounds 23-43 (45-65, 67-87)then, work the chart between the bold lines 12 (13, 14) times for the long sides and 7 (8, 9)times for the short sides. For rounds 23-87, also work the part to the left of the bold line once after those repeats.
After round 88, crochet off, gathering as many stitches as indicated into 1 single crochet (shown as decreases in the last round), working 12 chain sts in between. Wash, block, starch as or if desired, let dry, enjoy!
