Fingermuschel

Size: 63x77cm. Each motif is 10cm high x 18cm wide, the outer lace edge is 3.5-9cm wide. Materials: 65g medium-fine rayon, size 10/0 knitting needles 10/0 and a piece of fine thin cloth 47x33cm (plus allowance for seams).

Cast on 8 stitches, knit two rows, working flat. Then knit according to chart A. At the end of each pattern row, repeat the part before the first bold line once. Purl the return rows (not shown on the chart). In Row 15, work the part after the bold line 8 times after the part before (that line), then repeat the part before that line once again. After row16, repeat rows 15/16 seven more times. Continue from row 31 in the same manner (working the part after the second bold line 8 times before repeating the part before the first bold line once). Bind off after row 38, block the motif. Repeat until you have completed 8 motifs.

Cut the cloth accordingly, roll the edges to the back and baste in place. Crochet over the edges in neat narrow single crochet stitches. Then sew the 8 motifs, bind-off edge facing the center, to the crochet edge, joining the motifs where they meet. For the lace edge, pick up and knit 70 stitches from each motif and work in the round according to chart B, repeating the chart 16 times per round. Knit the rounds not shown on the chart. Crochet off after round 16, gathering as many stitches into 1 single crochet stitch as indicated in the last round of the chart. Chain 12 between the single crochet. Join the last ch12 to the first sc. Crochet a second round, now working 1 sc into each loop and chain 13 in between. Where motifs meet, gather 2 loops into one. Block the entire piece after finishing the second crochet round.
