FdA 778

Materials: 3 20g balls of 6-ply crochet thread, size 50 (enough for all three mats), size 1.5 knitting needles, size 10 crochet hook.

Large round placemat, 49 cm in diameter: Cast on 8 stitches, join into a round and knit according to Chart A. Knit the 1st and 2nd rounds. From the 3rd round up to and including the 57th round, repeat the pattern 8 times per round, following diagram A. From the 59th round, repeat the pattern 16 times per round. In the rounds not shown on the charts, knit the stitches as you find them: knit the knits, purl the purls. Where there are double yarnovers, knit the first loop and purl the second loop.

After the 118th round, crochet off the stitches. Combine the groups of stitches indicated in the last round with a single crochet stitch. Crochet 12 chain stitches between the groups of stitches.

Medium placemat, 39 cm in diameter. Knit according to Chart A from rounds 1 to 76, and then knit the rows from 109 to 118. Crochet off in the same manner as for the large round placemat.

Small placemat, 24 cm in diameter. Knit as for the large placemat from the first to the 42st round of diagram A, then knit from the 43rd to the 51st round of diagram B. Crochet off the groups of stitches in the last round with single crochet and chain 12 between groups.
