Dahlie (FdA 706)
Materials: four 20g balls of 6-ply crochet thread, size 50; 10g of 6-ply thread size 20; size 1.5 mm knitting needles and size 10 crochet hook.
This placemat is made up with 15 individual squares that are grafted together and a border. To make one square, cast on 8 stitches, join into a round and repeat chart A 4 times per round. Knit the rounds not shown on the charts, and where there are two yarnovers next to each other, in the next rount knit the first loop and purl the second loop. After round 32, place all the stitches on hold. Knit 14 more squares in the same manner.
Graft the squares together into a rectangle with 3 rows of 5 squares per row, matching stitch to stich along the sides. Pick up the remaining stitches around the outside of the rectaingle, 175 stitches on each long side and 105 stitches on each short side. Knit 6 rounds plain with the smaller thread (size 20)then commence the border following chart B. Repeat the border patter 5 times on each long side and to make the corner repeat the stitches after the heavy red line once more. On the short sides, repeat the pattern 3 times plus 1 extra repeat of the stitches left of the heavy red line at the corner.
After round 44, crochet off the stitches as shown in the last round. Gather each group of stitches into a single crochet stitch and then chain 11 stitches. Repeat until all stitches have been crocheted off. Block as desired.
