Very pretty table runner or placemat. I think knitting Chart A alone would make a very pretty doily. Measurements: With 4 motifs: 80 cm by 195 cm. With 3 motifs: 80 cm by 154 cm. With 2 motifs: 80 cm by 113 cm. Material: for the placemat with 4 designs: 300 g size 50crochet thread, size 1.5 knitting needles and crochet hook.

Execution: Cast on 8 stitches and join into a round. Knit according to chart A. Repeat the pattern 8 times per round. In the rounds not shown on the charts, knit the knits and purl the purls. Read the diagram from right to left and from bottom to top. Empty compartments are unimportant and help to show the design. Purl rounds 14 to 16. In the 18th and 40th rounds, knit 9 knit stitches from each group of 3 yarn overs, i.e. alternately knit 1 time and purl 1 time until you have 9 stitches. After round 118, leave the live stitches on hold. Knit 3 more octagons in the same way. Sew one side of an octagon (48 stitches) to one side of another octagon (see schematic.) 1248 stitches remain. Start chart B at point C of the schematic. This is therefore the beginning of 48 stitches on one side of an octagon. The following rounds consist of 2 parts, the 1st part (B) is before the bold line and the 2nd part (B1) is after the bold line. These 2 parts are repeated as follows: B, B1, B, B1, B, B1 2 times following B, then Bl, B, Bl, 2 times following B, then B1, B, B1, 2 times following next B, then B1, B, B1, B, B1. Repeat from the beginning once more for the 2nd side of the doily.

After the 70th round, bind off with a crochet hook. Take the groups of stitches shown in the last round together on the crochet hook, throw the yarn over the hook and draw through all the stitches. Crochet 8 chain stitches between each group of stitches.
