FdA 523 Un Cadre de Fleurs

Another pretty Herbert Niebling lace border. It isn’t listed on Ravelry, but you can see a project done from these charts here. The instructions are given for a lace border to be stitched to a linen center, total size 72 cm x 46 cm. However, the pattern could easily be used to make lace trim for any item of linen or clothing.

Material: (2) 20g balls of size 50 6-ply crochet cotton, size 2 knitting needles. [This probably means 2mm.]

Instructions: Cast on 525 stitches and distribute on 3 needles, work in the round using a fourth needle. Start by working 2 rounds stockinette. Then work rounds 1-45 from charts I and II. Read the charts from right to left and from bottom to top. Empty squares do not signify stitches but serve for a better graphical arrangement. Knit all rounds not shown on the chart. Where there are double yarnovers, in the following round knit the first loop and purl the second loop.

Repeats:
For the short sides, work the sections as follows: 1xA, (1xB plus 1xC) 3 times, then 1xB again. For the long sides, work as follows: 1xA, (1xB plus 1xC) 6 times, then 1xB again. After rd 34 (a resting round), work rounds 35-45 from chart II, repeating parts D and E as indicated, i.e. *1xD, then 4xE, 1xD and 7xE* twice.

After round 46 (a WS rd), shift the last st to the 1st needle, then crochet off by gathering 4 or 5 stitches (as shown on the chart in round 47) into 1 single crochet; chain 5 after every group. Block, take care to use rustproof pins. Starch lightly, let dry completely before taking off the pins.
