Cast on 20 stitches and knit chart A flat. Purl the return rows. From row 3, knit each row from right to left and then from left to right, as the chart only shows half the pattern. After row 240, put the remaining stitches on a stitch holder or waste yarn. Knit another piece from chart A. Place all stitches onto a circular knitting needle and foin into a round. Knit chart B toward the center. When only 4 stitches remain, cut the thread, pull the end through the 4 stitches, pull tight and knot. Then pick up 280 stitches along each side and ten stitches at each end for a total of 580 stitches. Knit according to chart C. Knit the rounds not shown on the chart. After round 18 of chart C, gather groups of stitches with single crochet as shown in the last round, and chain 12 between groups. Dampen, block and allow to dry.
