Arabis

Collar for a dress. Materials: 10g cotton crochet thread size 100, knitting needles no.1

Cast on 90 sts and repeat the pattern 3 times per row, knitting flat. Purl the return rows (WS). After row 40, knit each repeat separately, holding the remaining stitches on waste thread or a stitch holder. After row 107, make a knot, cut the thread and weave in the end on each repeat.

To produce the ruffle edging, pick up and knit every other st from the outside edge and work the edging according to the border chart (count the number of stitches picked up and adjust so that there is a multiple of 6.) Every row is a pattern row! Repeat the 2 charted rows 11 times in total, then bind off loosely.

The original border pattern shows an “A” where I have shown a purl. The symbol A is not explained in the key or in the text, so there was a discussion on Ravelry in the Niebling forum as to what the A might represent. In the end the consensus was that it probably represents “purl” especially as there is no symbol for purl in the original key. I have shown both versions in the charts. After quite a discussion, some of the knitters came up with a good idea for the border. Read the discussion here, posts 1674 through 1725.

  • Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
  • I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
  • Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!
