Agnes
Size: 105x145cm as written, can be lengthened or shortened by multiples of 22 s. Materials: 400g medium-fine cotton (400m/100g), size 2.5 and/or 3mm knitting needles in various lengths from 80 to 250 cm.
Cast on 8 stitches, join in the and repeat the pattern 8 times per for 14 s. From round 15, repeat the chart 4 times per round. Knit the rounds not shown on the charts. From round 75, knit the stitches before the bold line once, then work the stitches within the bold frame twice, finally the stitches after the bold line once, repeat 3 more times. Take care to move the markers as indicated in rounds 143 and 145.
From round 149, (repeat the stitches from a to b 4 times, the stitches after b once, then a to b 6 times again) 4 times. After round 166, you will have 240 stitches per side or 960 stitches total. Put the first 98 stitches on hold. Work the first short side across stitches 99-338 according to the charts in rows (back and forth): Slip the first stitch of each row. On all RS rows knit the stitches before line a once, repeat a-b 10 times, then work the stitches after b once. Rows 45-70 are the same as rows 3-38. In row 72, you will have 220 stitches.
Put the next 240 stitches from round 166 on hold, then work the second short side across the next 240 stitches as described above. Add the remaining 142 stitches to those 98 from the beginning.
Pick up and knit 50 stitches from each of the 36 selvedge stitches (36 stitches from 72 rows assumes you work a slipstitch selvedge): 2 stitches each from stitches # 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 33 and 36. This will give you 340 stitches for each long side and 220 stitches for each short side. It seems advisable to have the stitches of each side on separate circular, or to place stitch markers in between. Start on the second short side (which is where you end after working the second extension above), follow chart D, repeating the chart 22 times on the short side and 34 times on the long sides. Take care to insert the part b-c at the corners! After 10 rounds, crochet off according to the chart, working 9 chain stitches each between the sc.
