Pick up 16 stitches per repeat, or, if knitting the lace trim first to be attached later, cast on 16 stitches per repeat. Use as many repeats as needed for the length of the border. Knitting a swatch first is probably a good idea.
Knit the stitches inside the red border first, then the yarnover. Repeat for as many repeats as needed. If knitting flat, purl the return rows. If knitting in the round, knit the rounds not shown on the chart.
Note! If you are attaching the lace to a square or rectangle, make two yarnovers at the corner, rather than just one (as at the end of the other repeats.) In round 2, at the corners, increase the double yarnovers to 3 stitches. In the remaining rounds, when you come to the corner, repeat the stitches outlined in blue three times to make the corner.
Bind off with a crochet hook in the last round, using a single crochet to combine the stitches in each group, and chain 10 after each group.
