Vobachs 146-32

Oval table runner, approximately 50 X 70 cm. "Ancora" crochet thread and size 3 knitting needles.

Cast on 16 stitches, join into a round and knit according to chart A. Repeat the pattern 8 times per round. Knit the rounds not shown on the chart. From round 41 repeat the pattern 16 times per round. Work rounds 91 and 92 with double thread.

At this point there should be 384 stitches. Divide the stitches into 4 groups of 96 stitches each using stitch markers. Over the first group of 96 stitches knit chart B, knitting flat. Slip the first stitch of every row. Purl the return rounds. When chart B is finished, put the 2 remaining stitches on stitch holders. Repeat chart B over the third group of 96 stitches. These form the two ends of the oval.

Pick up the 2 saved stitches at one end, 79 stitches from the slipped-stitch edge of chart B, 96 unworked stitches along one side of the center, 79 stitches from the slipped-stitch edge of the next chart B, and repeat along the second side back to the starting point: 512 stitches total. Knit the border according to chart C. Knit the rounds not shown on the chart. Rounds 171-172 and 173 are worked with double yarn. On rounds 175-233 repeat the pattern 32 times in one round. At the beginning of the 195th round remove the stitch marker, slip one stitch to the right needle, replace the stitch marker. Continue with the pattern. Rounds 212-213 and 214 will again be worked with double yarn.

In the last round bind off the stitches with a crochet hook: join together in a single crochet the last stitch of the previous round and first 2 stitches of the bind-off round, then chain 8. Then continue making each decrease with a single crochet, followed with 8 chain stitches after each single crochet.
