Vierblatt

There are at least three designs by Niebling which are called Vierblatt. This one is a square doily designed by Herbert Niebling and published in 1948 in Beyer 711. Knit with crochet thread No. 40 and steel knitting needles No. 9/0, the doily or placemat is 40 cm or 16 inches square. You can see a photo of it here.

Cast on 8 stitches and join in the round. Knit according to the charts, repeating the chart 4 times per round. As usual, knit the rounds not shown on the chart. Note that some even-numbered rounds are shown, because they contain elements necessary for the pattern. Where there are two YOs together, on the following round knit the first loop and purl the second loop. Bind off with a crochet hook, decreasing according to round 90, and chain 12 between the decreases.

Remember:

  • Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
  • I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
  • Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!
