Strahlenmuschel

Another large doily from Mallin 404 credited to Linda and Herbert Niebling. The Nieblings used this motif in other patterns, including Lore from the same Mallin publication. Lore has four repeats and Strahlenmuschel has 8 repeats. Another version with 12 repeats is Muschel, published in Beyer Band 711.

Cast on 8 stitches and join in a round. Begin with chart A, repeating the pattern 8 times per round. Knit the rounds not shown on the chart. IMPORTANT NOTE: At the end of Round 6 slip the last 7 stitches (without knitting them) to the left needle and then begin Round 7. Then knit the pattern according to the chart. At the end of the 54th round, slip the last 15 stitches to the left needle without knitting. Then start round 55. Finally, at the end of the 76th round slip the last 29 stitches to the left needle from the right needle without knitting them. Then begin round 77. The purpose is to keep the groups of leaves correctly centered over the preceding groups of leaves. You can see a photo in the Ravelry database. Notice how the larger groups of leaves are centered over smaller groups of leaves.

Bind off with a crochet hook as follows:
[dec 7, ch13, (dec3, ch13, dec 5, ch13)8 times, dec 3, ch13]repeat 8 times. Join the last ch13 to the first dec. Cut the thread or yarn, tie a knot and then weave in the ends.

Remember:

  • Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
  • I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
  • Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!
