Sonnenrose

There is no photo of Sonnenrose in Beyer 330 or Spitzenstrickerei 2, but it is the same as the edging on Blütenrand. Blütenrand is not attributed to Niebling in the Ravelry database, although Sonnenrose is attributed to him. Possibly the Beyer design team fused Niebling's Sonnenrose edging with their own center.

The lace edging is 25 cm deep. Combined with a silk fabric center 28 cm in diameter (plus hem allowance), the completed tablecloth will be 78 cm in diameter. Besides the fabric the pattern also calls for 80 g of the same-colored medium-fine crochet silk and size 11/0 knitting needles. I'm not sure what size 11/0 corresponds to in modern sizing. Use knitting needles appropriate to the size of the yarn or thread you choose.

Cast on 192 stitches, join into a round and knit 4 rounds. From the 5th round on you knit according to the chart, repeating the pattern 16 times per round. All rounds not shown in the chart are knitted.

Bind off with a crochet, decreasing as shown in round 63. Crochet together the number of sts shown in the decreases with a single crochet. Chain 12 between the decreases. Block the lace into a circle. There is no photo in the source, so just block the lace as it seems appropriate. Once dry, lay the lace over the cloth and measure the size of the center opening. Cut out the fabric in a circle with additional for seam allowance. Baste the lace trim to the fabric center and then use the same thread as in the lace to stitch it down firmly all around. On the wrong side, trim the raw edge of the fabric, roll it under and stitch in place with blind stitches.

Remember:

  • Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
  • I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
  • Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!
