Sechseckiger Stern
Material: 30g crochet cotton #60, 2 sets of dpns 1.5mm, crochet hook 0.75mm. Six-pointed star. Thank you, Annagret, for writing out the instructions.
Instructions: The 6 motifs are worked separately first, then joined as-you-go while working the crochet bind-off. The outer border is knitted, then again bound off in crochet.
- The center of each motif starts in crochet as follows:
- Chain 8, joint into the round.
- Rd 1: (ch 8, 1 sc) 15 times. Finish the round with 4 ch + 1 tr. [Results in 16 loops]
- Rds 2-4: Like Round 1, but work the sc into the chain loops of the preceding row [i.e., staggered].
Then put 4 chain loops each onto dpns and start knitting according to chart A.
- Rounds 1+2: Work the chart 8 times per round, knitting 5 sts into each loop.
- [Important: All following instructions hold for 4 repeats, i.e. they have to be worked twice per round:] Rds 3-9: Work the part to the right of the bold line once, then 4 times the part to the left of that line. Mind the very last yo in rd 9 must only be worked after the 4th repeat, i.e. once. [This is where the 2 halves will separate].
- Rds 10-15: Work the sts to the right of the bold line once, then those to the left of that line 5 times.
- Rds 16-19: Work the sts to the right of the bold line once, then those to the left of that line 6 times.
- After rd 19, bind off in crochet, gathering as many sts into 1 sc as indicated by the numbers above the chart and working 8 chain sts in between each sc.
Knit 5 more motifs. Start each motif separately, joining it to the preceding motif in the bind-off row by working (ch 4, 1 sc into the opposite ch8-loop, ch4) instead of ch8. Take care to connect the 6th motif at both sides. Attention must be paid that the tips of the motifs meet in the middle, the sc stitches at this point must all be worked into the same point.
Once the 6 motifs are connected, put all outer chain loops onto dpns (21 loops each) [This is bound to be loose and fiddly. I would take a circ here or only put loops on dpns as they are worked right away]. Knit 11 sts out of the first loop, then 5 sts out of the remaining 20 loops, working 1 yo between loops (cf. chart B) . Rds 2-0, work as follows: 1 chart repeat extends from one tip to the next: [Consequently, Rd1 should be started at a tip, which was not explicitly stated!] Work the sts from the right end of the chart right to arrow b once, then those between arrows a and b 4 times, then those between arrows b and c once, then those between arrows a and b 3 times, finally those to the left of arrow c once. From rd.10, just repeat the chart all around. After rd 12, crochet off, gathering 3 sts each into 1 sc, working 10 chain sts in between those. [Weave in the ends and block.] Refer to the photo for the placement of the chain loops when blocking.
