Orchidee (Romanze)
This pattern is called "Orchidee" in Burda Burda Großes Buntes Handarbeitsheft, 426, pattern no. 29. Orchidee is attributed to Herbert Niebling in the text. Although out of print, this pattern collection is easy to find online, for sale on various sites like eBay. The same motif is used in a large tablecloth, called "Romanze" in Anna, 03/2002 but this larger tablecloth might be more accurately described as "inspired by Niebling's Orchidee". Following is my re-charted version of the pattern.
The original pattern calls for about 15 g of MEZ Glanzhäkelgarn Nr. 60 and two sets of size 1.75 knitting needles, 17 cm and 21 cm long.
Cast on 8 stitches, join in a round and knit two rounds. Begin following chart A at round 3. Repeat the pattern 8 times per round.
Beginning with Round 85 (Chart C), repeat the chart 32 times.
Knit the in-between rounds, except where there are double YOs. In that case, knit the first loop and purl the second loop.
Cast off with a crochet hook: Decrease 4 sts. with a single crochet stitch and chain 12 between the decreases. Connect the last ch12 to the first decrease.
Block (and starch the doily if using thread instead of heavier yarn.)
Remember:
- Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
- I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
- Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!
