Rippenblütenspitze

This is a particularly pretty lace edging, meant to be sewn onto a square, circle or oval of fine fabric. The photo in the original shows the lace attached to commercially embroidered centers. I think it's difficult to find those now. However the lace will be just as pretty sewn onto any fine fabric.

The width of the lace varies with the thickness of the thread, approx. 5.5cm to 8cm. Required fabric measured without lace: oval 14.5 x 21 cm, square 30 x 30 cm, circles 14 and 29 cm in diameter. Material: Shiny crochet thread, 25 g of size 40 for large circle, 20 g of size 60 for square and oval, 15 g of size 80 thread for the smaller circle. Knitting needles size 1.75 or 1.5 mm. For the larger patterns, use circular needles 80 or 100 cm long.

Cast on 19 sts for each motif (oval 14 motifs, square 6 motifs on each side, circles 11 or 20 motifs). Join into a round and follow the chart. Knit the stitches before the blue line twice, then knit the remaining stitches on the chart. On the in-between round, knit the stitches as they present themselves. In Round 10 knit 10 sts out of the 3 YOs of the previous round, alternating knit and purl. For the corners of the square, after every 6 motifs, knit three additional petals (the stitches before the red line). In Round 29 decrease as shown with a crochet hook, chain 9 between the decreases. Starch, block and attach to fabric with matching embroidery thread. Trim the underside, roll the raw edges under and blindstitch in place.

Remember:

  • Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
  • I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
  • Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!
