Round 6: switch to knitting: knit 6 stitches into each outer loop and then knit according to Chart A beginning with Round 1 of the chart.
Chart A, rounds 1 to 4: repeat the pattern 12 times per round. Rounds 5 to 9: Repeat the chart two times per round, but repeat the stitches inside the strong lines 4 times per repeat. Rounds 10 to 14: Repeat the chart two times per round, but knit the stitches framed in the heavy lines 6 time per repeat. Rounds 15 to 17: Repeat the chart two times per round, but knit the stitches framed inside the heavy yellow lines 9 times per repeat.
After Round 17, bind off with a crochet hook. Crochet 5 stitches together with a single crochet and then chain 12 stitches. Repeat until all stitches have been bound off. Join the last ch12 to the first sc stitch.
After the 17th round, crochet the sts, always collect 5 stitches into 1 single crochet, crochet 12 chain stitches in between. Connect the 2nd, 3rd and 4th motif with the previous one in a diamond shape while crocheting the stitches. Where the sides of the motifs connect, instead of the 12 chain stitches, make 6 chain stitches, 1 single crochet in the chain stitch space of the opposite motif, 6 chain stitches. When all 4 motifs are combined in this way, the chain loops of the outer edge are lifted back onto the needles and the top is knitted in 10 rounds according to Chart B; Knit 3 stitches in each chain-space, but knit 6 stitches on the 2 opposite corners of a chain-space. Begin the lace at a corner where you have knitted out 6 stitches. After the 10th round, crochet the sts, always gather as many stitches into 1 single crochet as the numbers above knit chart B dictate, crochet 12 chain stitches in between.
