Myrthe
Myrthe (Myrtle) is a lace doily, about 30 cm. wide if knitted according to the original pattern instructions. I haven't found any reprints of this pattern (originally published in 1931, designed by Herbert Niebling), so I decided to rechart it. It wasn't very hard to rechart except for one symbol for a 6-minus-3 decrease. To work that stitch, slip 3 purlwise, knit three, pass the slipped stitches over the three knit stitches.
The pattern calls for crochet thread size 100 and size 50. You will only need a small amount of size 50. The pattern calls for knitting needles No. 3/0, in old German sizes. The size 50 thread is used to knit rounds 76 to 79. I don't think size 100 thread is even made now, is it? Instead, use the yarn or thread you like and the appropriate size needles. Knit with double yarn on rounds 76-79, to avoid using two different weights of yarn.
Cast on 8 stitches and work the pattern 8 times each round. Note that beginning with round 82 the patterned rounds are even-numbered and the plain knitted rounds are odd-numbered. Don't forget the doubled or heavier yarn for rounds 76-79. After the last round, cast off with a crochet hook. Decrease the number of stitches indicated in round 116, using a single crochet, and chain 15 between decreases. Join the last ch15 to the first decrease and tie it off. Weave in the ends and block your doily! As usual, I would really love to see a photo of your finished work, and if you list it on Ravelry in your projects, please link to the page.
Remember:
- Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
- I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
- Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!
