Mosaik

This is a pretty tablecloth, but probably challenging as well. I haven't knitted it myself, but I love the pattern. You can see a couple of photos here. The pattern calls for three different sizes of thread, but I have my doubts about that. It seems to me it would complicate the tablecloth unnecessarily. When knit using the suggested thread and needles, the tablecloth is 65 cm. square. The pattern calls for 25 g DMC crochet thread size 60, 30 g size 40 and 20 g size 20. Needles size 1.

First make eight squares with crochet thread size 60. For each square, cast on 4 stitches, and work Chart A 4 times in the round. All rounds not marked are knitted. After round 40 you knit back and forth over each individual repeat, following Chart B. Purl the return rows.

Sew the squares together according to the schematic. Then pick up 40 stitches on each side in the center opening, and knit with size 40 crochet thread, following Chart D. In the first round, the framed characters are knitted 20 times per side. Rounds 4, 18, 32, and 46 are purled. When you reach the middle with the 59 round, the last 8 sts remaining are pulled together with the working thread and sewn together tightly.

With size 20 crochet thread, pick up 480 stitches along the outside edge (120 stitches per side). Follow Chart C, knitting the repeat four times per round. The framed stitches in the first round are repeated 60 times on each side and the framed stitches in round 45 are repeated 110 times. Rounds 4, 6, 18, 20, 32, 34, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, and 56 are purled. After round 56, the st are crocheted with crochet thread size 60. Crochet together 4 sts with 1 dc, separated by 10 chain stitches.

In Charts C and D, rather than have long rows of knit or purl, I have shortened the rows and just put in the number of knits or purls needed per repeat in the center of the column. If that is too confusing I have also written out the instructions for each round to the right of each chart.

Remember:

  • Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
  • I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
  • Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!
