Taschentuchspitze Maiglöckchen Lace Edging (3 Bells)

Another Niebling lily of the valley design, this one from Meyers 36. This is meant to be lace edging for a handkerchief. However, it would be pretty on many things, not just hankies.

The pattern calls for fine linen batiste, size 70 linen crochet thread, size 0/0 knitting needles and a size 12 crochet hook. No size is given for the linen batiste. Hem a square piece of the fabric, and then crochet a row of single crochets around the edge, clost together. Pick up a stitch in each single crochet and knit two rounds. If necessary add or decrease stitches in these two rounds so that you wind up with a multiple of 16 stitches.

Then begin knitting the chart starting at round 3. At each corner, knit the stitches to the left of the green line twice. At the last round, make the decreases with a crochet hook, joining the stitches in each decrease with a single crochet, and chain 9 between the decreases.
