Hauswurz

Designed by Herbert Niebling, of course. Published in Meyer 36 originally. The name is interesting -- it means "houseleek" which is a plant named sempervivum or "hen and chicks" where I come from. It's a very pretty doily, click on the name above to see a photo in the Ravelry database.

If knitted with 10 g of fine thread (size 100) and size 1 needles, it has a diameter of 26 cm. In vintage sizes for German needles, that would be 1 mm or so, a very fine needle. Use whatever thread or yarn you prefer, with appropriate needles, and you'll get a tablecloth, I imagine, rather than a doily.

Cast one 8 stitches and join into a round. Knit according to the chart, repeating the design 8 times per round).. Knit Chart A first (rounds 1-32) and then knit chart B (rounds 33-72 Knit the intermediate rounds, and where there are two YOs, in the intermediate round knit the first loop and purl the second loop. After round 72 bind off with a crochet hook. Decrease 4 stitches with a single crochet and then chain 12. Repeat around the border until all stitches are bound off. Join the last ch12 to the first decrease.

Remember:

  • Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
  • I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
  • Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!
