Flieder
One of two Herbert Niebling designs named “Flieder.” Size: 126 cm long, 80 cm wide. Material: 200 g medium-weight tea-colored silk crochet thread, size 2.5 knitting needles.
Cast on 6 stitches and join into a round. Knit two rounds. Then knit chart A six times per round. Knit the rounds not shown on the chart. After the 84th round, knit two more rounds. Then Knit Chart B over the first 54 stitches (the first repeat). Knit back and forth, and be sure to slip the first stitch of each row and knit the last stitch of each row through the back loop. Leave all the remaining stitches (repeats 2 – 6) on stitch holders for the time being. After finishing Chart B the first time, leave the last stitch on a stitch holder. Repeat Chart B over stitches 163-216 (the 4th repeat of Chart A).
Pick 540 stitches as follows: 1 stitch on the holder at one end of the doily, yarn over, then pick up 40 stitches along one side of Chart B, alternating each picked up stitch with a yarn over. Knit across 108 stitches on stitch holders (second and third repeat of Chart A), pick up 40 stitches along one side of the other Chart B rows, alternating with YO again. 1 + 1 + 80 + 108 + 80 = 270 stitches. Repeat on the other side for a total of 540 stitches. Then knit the border (Chart C), repeating the pattern 20 times per round. Bind off with a crochet hook, decreasing two stitches at a time with one single crochet. Chain one between decreases. Block.
