Supplies: Five 20g balls of 6-ply Cordonnet Brillanté no. 50 A la Croix (Cartier Bresson), 5 size 1.5 double-pointed needles, auxiliary needles and size 10 crochet hook. I'm not sure exactly what sizes are meant, so probably best to use the size of needle recommended on the ball band.

Cast on 8 stitches (2 stitches on each of the 4 needles) and work in the round with the 5th needle following Chart A. Repeat the chart 4 times per round. Even rounds (not shown on the charts) are knitted. Where there are 2 subsequent yarnovers, knit the first loop and purl the second. Read the diagram from right to left and bottom to top. The empty squares have no meaning, their purpose is just to make it easier to understand the chart. The numbers on the right side of the pattern represent the rounds and the numbers inside the charts in pink squares represent the number of stitches that should be knitted. The row of numbers at the top, above the last row, related only to the last row. The numbers at the bottom, below the first row, relate only to the first row.

After round 73, place all stitches on waste yarn or stitch holders. Make another 8 small squares in the same way. Sew the 9 squares together, in three rows of three squares (the 3 yarn overs form the corners). Put all the remaining stitches from the outer edges on 4 needles and knit the border in the round with the 5th needle according to Chart B. There are 216 stitches on each of the 4 needles. Repeat the chart a total of 9 times per needle, then repeat the part between the bold lines once more at the end of each needle. The part between the bold lines forms the corner.

After round 42, bind off with a crochet hook, according to the last round on the chart. Crochet together the stitches indicated in the last round with single crochet. Chain 12 stitches between the decreases. Starch, block and allow to dry.
