Supplies: 5 (20g) balls of Cordonnet 8-ply thread size 50, size 2 or 9/0 knitting needles.
Instructions: Cast on 8 stitches or 2 stitches on each of the 4 needles and knit in the round with the 5th needle, according to diagram A. After the 54th round, place the first 24 stitches on a stitch holder or waste thread, the next 70 stitches remain on a needle and form the first side of the oval. Place the next 48 stitches on a stitch holder or waste thread, and leave the other 70 stitches also on a needle to form the 2nd part of the oval. Then place the last 24 stitches on hold with the first 24 stitches. Knit flat according to chart B over the first 70 stitches. Knit the odd rows according to the chart and purl the even rows (return rows which are not indicated on the chart). After the 175th row, place the remaining stitches on a safety pin. Repeat on the second set of 70 stitches to form the other end/point of the oval.
Edge: Pick up 90 stitches along one side of the oval, knit the first 24 stitches left on hold. Take a 2nd needle, knit the next 24 stitches then pick up 91 stitches along the other side of the oval so until the other end of the oval. Take a 3rd needle and knit like the 1st needle. Take a 4th needle and knit as the 2nd needle. Knit in the round with the 5th needle according to diagram C. There will therefore be 115 stitches on each needle. Knit the rounds not shown on the chart. First knit 2 rounds. After the 20th round, finish with a crochet hook: * combine 5 stitches with a single crochet stitch, then chain 10. Repeat from * until all stitches have been crocheted off. Block.
