Elga Curtain Lace
Another obscure Herbert Niebling pattern, this one is wide lace edging for the bottom of a curtain panel. I think it would also make an interesting border for a shawl or a tablecloth. Be sure to read ALL the instructions before starting, to make sure you understand. Also, the charts are pretty large; right-click on each chart and choose "view image" or whatever your browser suggests, to view each chart in a larger image.
Elga Curtain Lace. Curtain width 1.5 m. Lace width (depth) 27 cm. Material white crochet cotton, size 90, knitting needles size 0 and white fabric for the curtains.
Cast on 772 stitches (110 stitches for each repeat and 1 stitch for each edge.) Start with Chart A and knit the pattern 7 times in a row. Purl back on the resting rows, except where there are double YOs. In that case, purl the first loop and knit the second loop. Slip the first stitch of each row (edge stitch), and knit the last stitch of each row (edge stitch.) Edge stitches are not shown on the charts.
In Rounds 13 to 80, knit the stitches before the red line once, the part between the red lines 3 times, and the part after the last red line once, in each repeat. In Rounds 81 to 122, knit the stitches before the red line once, the stitches between the red lines twice, and the stitches after the last red line once in each repeat.
In Round 89 you will make 5 YOs. In Round 90, purl a stitch into each loop. In Round 91, increase these 5 stitches to 19 stitches. In Round 105 you'll knit 4 YOs, three times. In Round 106, purl a stitch into each loop. In Round 107, increase each group of 4 stitches from the YOs to 15 stitches.
After Round 122 loosely bind off all stitches. Starch the lace and block it with pins, stretching the points as in the photo. Once the lace is dry, stitch it onto the bottom edge of the curtain.

- Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
- I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
- Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!
