Edelblatt
Edelblatt is a pattern for lace edging. It is knit in the round with corners, and then stitched onto a square of batiste or linen. The size of the fabric depends on the final size of your lace edging. Right-click on the chart and select "open image in new tab" to see a larger image.
The pattern calls for crochet thread No. 150 and knitting needles No. 0/0, in old German sizes. Use the yarn you like and needles appropriate to the size of the yarn. Cast on 384 sts and join into a round. Place a marker after each repeat (16 stitches), and place a different-colored marker after the sixth repeat (96 stitches) to mark the corners. Knit in rounds according to the chart, repeating the pattern 24 times in the round, six times per side. At the corners, after every 96 sts, knit the stitches to the left of the strong line twice next to each other to form the corners. Knit all stitches in the even numbered rounds (not shown on the chart) except where there are double yarnovers. In that case, knit the first loop and purl the second. Bind off after the 22nd round. Use a crochet hook to decrease stitches as indicated in Round 23 with a single crochet, and then chain 12 stitches in between.
