Cobea

This is a pretty tablecloth published in Kunststricken 717. Kunststricken 717 lists “Bennöder, Jockwer, Niebling, Thaemel und eigene Werkstatt” as designers. There is no indication who designed Cobea, and I’d be inclined to say Thaemel based on the few Thaemel patterns I’ve seen. However, Cobea has two kinds of mesh in the pattern, the ordinary (yo, k2tog) and the hexagonal (k2tog, yo twice, ssk) which is usually seen in Niebling patterns. So, I don’t know. Because I don't know who the designer is, I'm putting this in my vintage Non-Niebling charts.

This is a large pattern, which makes a tablecloth about 1.6 meters across, if knitted with the recommended yarn (size 30 crochet thread and size 3 needles.) You can see a photo in the Ravelry database. There are a lot of charts and they are pretty sizeable, so you might want to print them in landscape format on 8.5 x 14 inch paper, or some similar size.

  • Cast on 8 stitches, join in a ring and knit following Chart A. Repeat the pattern 8 times per round. Knit all rounds that aren't shown on the charts.
  • Knitting Chart A-2, repeat the pattern 4 times per round.
  • When knitting rounds 68 to 157 (Charts B and B-2), repeat the pattern 8 times per round.
  • When knitting rounds 158 to 199 (Charts C and C-2) repeat the pattern 16 times per round. NOTE that two odd-numbered rounds are shown: 177 and 199. In this pattern the odd numbered rounds usually aren't shown and are just knitted. However some pattern stitches are necessary to the design in rounds 177. Round 199 is the last round before binding off.

Remember:

  • Feel free to download and use the charts, print copies for your own use. However, you may not print them out and share them with others. Send folks to my website so they can download for themselves.
  • I don't own the original pattern, but I do own my recharted version. So, please don't copy my charts and claim them as your own or publish them under your name. If you want to have your own charts, then find the original patterns and rechart them yourself!
  • Do not sell copies of these charts. If I don't charge for my recharts, you certainly shouldn't charge for my recharts!
