Campanula is a 60-cm in diameter doily or small tablecloth. It is called Schelle in Old World Treasures. Also, the border motif is listed as a separate design called Ranunkel in Meyers 14. It is made of eight small floral motifs which are grafted together into a wreath. Then stitches are picked up around the center and decreased gradually until only 8 stitches remain. Material: 20 gr. crochet thread size 100, 5 knitting needles size 1, 1 circular knitting needle size 1 and 1 crochet hook size 11.
For each motif, cast on 8 stitches and join into a round. Work Chart A 8 times per round.
- After the 40th round you will bind off the first repeat of round 41, using any bind-of of your choice. (31 stitches bound off)
- Then bind off the next four repeats (124 stitches) according to round 41 on the chart, using a crochet hook and single crochet to decrease as shown, and chaining 10 stitches between the decreases. This is the lacy edging that will be on the outside edge of the doily.
- Next bind off one repeat (31 stitches) using the bind-off technique of your choice.
- This leaves the stitches from two repeats live (62 stitches). Place these on a stitch holder until all 8 motifs have been completed.
Lay out the 8 motifs in a circle with the bound off edges touching, the lacy edge to the outside, and the live stitches to the inside. See the schematic to see how it works. Sew together the touching bound-off edges. Pick up all the stitches around the inside of the circle and knit chart B which decreases toward the center. After you finish the chart, cut the yarn, run it through the remaining stitches and pull them together tightly. Make a knot, and weave in all the ends.
