This is a rectangular doily with fabric center. Size: 34 cm long, 26 cm wide. Width of the lace edging: 6 cm.
Material: 10 g white crochet thread size 150, size 0 knitting needles, plus a rectangle of white batiste, about 34 cm by 26 cm.
Cast on 400 stitches with doubled yarn, join into a round and purl four rounds. Then continue knitting with a single yarn. Begin following chart A from round 5 to round 24 as follows:
- For the long sides:
- knit to the strong red line,
- knit the stitches between the red lines 6 times (i.e. 6 repeats),
- knit the stitches after the second red line.
- For narrow sides of the rectangle:
- knit the stitches before the red line once,
- knit the repeat 4 times,
- then knit the stitches after the second red line.
Knit the second part of chart A (rounds 25 to 40) the same way, with six repeats on the long sides, four repeats on the narrow sides. Rounds that are not shown (even-numbered rounds) should be knitted.
Chart B is for the 4 triangles, which measure 7.5 cm on the short sides, and are inset into the corners of the rectangle of lace. Cast on 6 stitches and knit Chart B flat (back and forth), purling the return rows. Knit the repeat twice. Be sure to slip the first stitch of each row purlwise, to achieve a chain edge. Where there are double yarnovers, on the next row knit the first loop and purl the second loop. Bind off loosely. Starch and block the lace. When dry, stitch onto the fabric center using a whip stitch over the first round of stitches (the edge that was knit with doubled thread.) Pin the triangles into the corners and stitch into place through the slipped edge stitches. Trim and roll the raw edges of the fabric on the underside, sew into place.
